La traviata is a tragic three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi with an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It premiered on March 6, 1853, at the La Fenice opera house in Venice, and follows the doomed love story of the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry and the young nobleman Alfredo Germont.
