Fishing in and around Pembridge

Pembridge is blessed with some very good fishing in the area with Trout, Grayling, Barbel, Carp, Pike and other course fish all to be caught within a few miles. Most fishing is done on rivers. The Border Country has many miles of water that is basically within the catchment of the River Wye.

As every angler knows it is necessary to have:

1. A current Fishing Licence for the species you are targeting, from the Environment Agency. https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences

2. Permission from the fishery Owner.

3. A good knowledge of the national, local and fishery seasons, rules and regulations.

The best place to start is The Fishing Passport Scheme: https://www.fishingpassport.co.uk/

This is operated by the local Rivers Trust known as The Wye and Usk Foundation. Permissions and payment must be done through them. All at very reasonable cost.

Fishing in the area can be found on local streams and Rivers Arrow and Lugg for wild Brown Trout and Grayling as well as lower down for various course fish. The river Wye (within 15 miles) is famous for catches of Barbel, Pike and Chub.

In addition, there is a choice of many other fisheries within 50 miles that include reservoirs and small still waters.

It is possible to search the website by date, species or by beat etc

Specific local waters:

The Arrow- a great river for ‘Wild Stream’ hunting for wild Brownies or Grayling. There is a choice of many different beats. All beats can get overgrown in summer and live up to their name of being ‘wild’

Although the river can be seen (and paddled) on Pembridge Village Green, the fishing is only available to parishioners.

Carp:- Townsend Caravan Park in Pembridge or Pearl Lake Caravan Park in Shobdon, both need permission from the office.

Please enjoy your fishing, Care for the Countryside and take your litter home. Tight Lines!
