Martin’s Mission Accomplished
Last month we reported that Martin Steer had successfully raised £50,000 to replace the Demetia Bus which provides vital services to those in Herefordshire living with dementia.
The generosity of Herefordshire folk has made this possible and Martin and his colleagues are very grateful for the support you have shown.
On 22nd July the bus will be presented to the charity Dementia Matters Here(fordshire). Several VIPs are expected to attend the ceremony which will take place at the New Inn from 12 noon.
All are welcome to attend and help Martin and his fellow charity workers celebrate their success.
Come to the launch of the new Cambus and find out about the services which Demetia Matters Here offers to the people of Herefordshire.
Millennium Meadow Play Area
With the summer holidays coming the Parish Council want to spruce up the children’s play area in the Millennium Meadow.
The Council is looking for volunteers who can give a few hours to help clean up the play equipment and make some basic repairs. If you can help please contact the Parish Clerk at clerk@pembridgeparishcouncil.gov.uk
The Council wish to renew fencing around the area and would welcome tenders from fencing contractors. Anyone interested should contact the parish clerk.
Portrait of Pembridge Collage
We have now collected digital copies of over 100 photographs of Pembridge people and places.
We’d like to thank all those who have shared their photographs of former residents and events. If you have a photo of Pembridge of yesteryear and you would like to share it, please take a photo with your phone camera and send it to portraitofpembridge@yahoo.com
They say every picture paints a story and these photographs really open a window on to life in the village at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century.
The completed collage will be displayed at the Parish Hall
Can you help us identify the bell ringers at Pembridge Church in the photo below. This was taken before 1917. The man sitting in the right is Stanley Pinches. Who are the others?
Love to Sing Double Bill
The Love to Sing Choir will be performing twice in July as their reputation is leading to more and more opportunities to perform alongside other artists and in bigger productions to wider audiences.
On 18th July they are performing at Holy Trinity Church Hereford and on 21st July at Malvern Theatre in the musical “Choir of Man”.
If you want to hear them closer to home, there is a perfect opportunity at the Strawberry Fayre at Pembridge Church on 1st August.
School Summer Fete
Pembridge School will be celebrating the beginning of summer with a Fete on 3rd July from 3.15pm.
Friends of Pembridge School and family members are welcome to join pupils and teachers.
Attractions include a bouncy castle, face painting, bottle stall, nail art and more.
Fitness at Pembridge Parish Hall
There will be no Tuesday classes in July, but these will recommence in August. Friday fitness sessions at 10am are designed for those looking for an intermediate level of fitness training.
For those who enjoy running in company Pembridge runners meet at the Parish Hall Sundays 8.45am for a relaxed run through our beautiful countryside.
Pembridge History
A few weeks ago, we told the story of “Blind Leek” the blind weaver of Bearwood who proved to be very resourceful in overcoming his disability. Members of his family have been in touch to tell us more so we will be following up this story.
We were inspired by Tony Norman’s talk on farming since 1945 to look at the history of the War Agricultural Committees which dictated farming practice during and after World War II. We have also been delving into the stories of Pembridge Rectors. Two were destined to become Archbishops until death intervened, in one case by murder, and a second Pembridge Rector was poisoned. A much more dangerous profession in those days.

Help Us to Preserve the History of Pembridge
Portrait of Pembridge is now in its 4th yar of existence. During that time, we have staged three exhibitions on Pembridge history, created a website which records the history of Pembridge and current day events, published a Platinum Jubilee Souvenir Album, retold the histories of those named on our war memorial, hosted talks, and run a photography and art competition.
We need your help to uncover the stories which have made Pembridge what it is today.
Our latest project is to create a collage and micro museum at the Parish Hall. If you have an artefact, document, or story you’d like to share with us please do get in touch.
